Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Agriculture - Biodiversity (Part II)

How does Homa Organic Farming help to calm down this "storm on the horizon", to bring Nature back to Harmony, to restore biodiversity?
Reports from farmers and scientific studies give some answers.
Let us start with an observation Rita and Thomas Hirt made on their Homa Farm in Rippistal, Switzerland. When they started the farm one big problem was that the meadows were widely covered with a tall growing weed, the broadleaf dock (Rumex obtusifolius). A few of these plants are o.k., they can even be used as medicine. But as these meadows are used for cows who graze there in summer and hay is made for winter, it was a problem that large areas were covered by broadleaf dock, making these areas useless.
All neighbouring farmers had the same problem – but they used herbicides to control the broadleaf dock. Not possible on a Homa Farm – and as we have seen this may solve one problem, but create more other problems as it brings Nature more away from Harmony.
Interesting what happened after some time of performing the Homa fires and spraying Agnihotra Ash water: Green dock beetles (gastroidea viridula) arrived in large number and controlled the broadleaf dock.
These beetles were not found on the meadows of neighbouring farms. This is an example how on a Homa Farm biodiversity is restored and automatically beneficial insects arrived. This also reminds on the experience which Abhay Mutalik Desai had on his farm where woolly aphid was controlled by two natural predators - Micromus igorotus and Dipha aphidivora (see Homa Health Newsletter # 136).

Greendock beetles arrive in large numbers.

Homa Therapy is a Science of Healing and comes from Ayurvedic Medicine. I studied conventional medicine, but I have been practicing Alternative or Complementary Medicine for 24 years. With Homa Therapy, Healing is TOTAL.
We are in the times of rebirth of ancestral knowledge.
The Fire element is the one that governs the heart, the digestion, the small intestine, the blood vessels, etc.
Let’s remember that the heart is related to the emotional body. Our emotions are seated in the heart, to put it that way, and that's where the activity comes from.

Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Effect on Seed Germination

by Dr. Ulrich Berk,
Germany

(Quantity of food worldwide – especially in developing countries – continues to be an urgent issue.
Quality of food in developed countries – especially in the age of the spreading of the GMO scourge – is a less publicized issue [in part due to obfuscation by vested interests]. In both cases, the proven potential of Homa Organic Farming in yielding greater quantities and quality of food should not escape the notice of all. The following article shows the effects of Homa on seed germination – the first step in our food chain. – Ecovillage Bhrugu Aranya)

2017 Agnihotra Equinox Event

Equinox fire, from Jolanda Stots, Netherlands
Some years ago we started a Global Sacred Fire Event during the Equinox period, and it was a great success. So many people around the world had joined and Agnihotra fires moved around the planet at sunrise and sunset. This year we repeated this wonderful experience, creating a grid of Sacred Fires all around the world, to help build a critical mass to elevate consciousness on planet Earth.

Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Agriculture - Biodiversity (Part I)

Since more than a decade now a dramatic decline of bee population has been noticed worldwide. Now we learn that a similar decline can be found regarding all insects.
Recently an alarming study was published by scientists from Germany, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. Insects were captured in nature reserves throughout Germany and counted. This long-term study found that within 25 years there was a reduction of 75%!

We are thrilled to share with you that the construction of the Centre of Light has been going full steam ahead. We have already completed the structure for the second story, and next week the roof construction will begin. Our greatest joy would be to celebrate the completion of the roof by Christmas.

Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Agriculture - Food Quality (Part II)

Now let us see whether Homa Farming has a positive effect on the nutritional value also. Again we find a lot of information in the four M.Sc. theses done at Dharwad Agricultural University (Karnataka, South India). Homa Farming methods were compared with organic methods (without Homa) and with conventional farming methods. The crops planted were soy beans, cabbage, tomatoes, and okra. (Okra is also known as ladies’ fingers, a vegetable quite popular in Asian and African countries.)

Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Agriculture - Food Quality

For good health, proper diet with nutritious vegetables, fruits, and grains is of great importance. But it seems that with the food produced nowadays our bodies often do not get all the micronutrients they need to maintain good health. Several recent studies show that there is a decline in nutritional value of vegetables, fruits, and grains.

Summer at Ecovillage Bhrugu Aranya was rich with visitors from many countries, including United States, Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, China, Hungary, India, Turkey, Thailand, Israel, Chile, Brazil, Holland, Italy, Romania, and Poland! As always, there was a lively interchange of ideas and experiences, as well as healing received from the many fires performed here daily. We truly are One World.

Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Agriculture - Pests and Diseases

Vedic Knowledge says that when we perform Agnihotra, a channel is created above the pyramid, going up 12 kilometres.
Prana energy - Life Energy – which lies above our atmosphere comes down through this channel. Because of pollution this flow of Prana energy might be blocked otherwise.

Ancient Oaks Children’s Program 2017–Another Success!

Patricia (Patty) Norton and Maria Broom

It was one of Shree Vasant’s greatest dreams to bring children from the heart of Baltimore city out to our Homa farm where they could experience green open spaces and a healing atmosphere saturated with Homa fires. With a generous grant from the Krieger Fund, the Baltimore Homa Community was able to offer a second year of their Children’s Summer Farm Program at Ancient Oaks Homa Farm in Westminster, Maryland. Eight groups–over 300 children–came to enjoy a half-day of hiking, drumming, dancing, yoga, sound healing, storytelling, tasty vegetarian lunches and quiet meditation with Homa fire, not to mention lots and lots of free time to just run and play without fear of traffic, violence or bullets. With wonderful, flexible facilitators and plenty of Shree’s grace we were able to do all of this and it is extremely humbling.

Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Agriculture - Crop Yield

In the previous blog we summarized four M.Sc. theses from Dharwad University, Karnataka, India, which give ample evidence that with Homa Organic Farming a healthy micro-flora and micro-fauna in soil is created, thus rejuvenating the soil. This is of utmost importance as nowadays conventional farming which uses a wide range of agrochemicals is destroying this micro-flora and micro-fauna, thus leaving behind a soil which is more and more exhausted, no longer a rich living soil.

Agnihotra in Delhi

Before leaving Mother India, we spent a few days in New Delhi with Mother Saroj Malik and her daughter, Akanksha, who was our wonderful hostess. Both organized meetings and presentations for Homa Therapy.
Mrs. Umang, neighbor of Akanksha and now Agnihotra practitioner, also took initiatives to inform people about Homa Therapy in their home and workplace.

Agnihotra Goes to Sewadham Ashram, Ujjain, MP, India

We had the honor of meeting Mr. Sudhir Bhai Goyal, through Sarvajit Paranjpe, during the Somayag in early February 2017 at the Maheshwar Goshala. He invited us to visit his Ashram in Ujjain and teach Agnihotra and the Homa Therapy Fires. The time had come to follow the call of this humble man.
Guided by Mrs. Vidya Didwania we arrived at the Sewadham Ashram.

Effects of Homa Organic Farming on Soil Quality

In my previous blog I quoted reports of FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) saying that farming only 60 years of farming would be left if conventional farming would continue like today.
Also we quoted Shree Vasant Paranjpe stating that the soil has to be rejuvenated first by Homa Therapy, thus creating a healthy micro-flora and micro-fauna. This is the claim based on Vedic Knowledge. To which extent could this claim be validated by modern agricultural sciences?

Purification of Water by Agnihotra

Dr. Ulrich Berk

Scientific experiments have shown Agnihotra purifies the air of pathogenic bacteria, reduces harmful chemicals in the air such as NOx and SOx, and also reduces the quantity of particulate matter in the air (which is harmful for our respiratory system.)

Scientific experiments also show that Agnihotra and Agnihotra Ash purify water. We are advised to add Agnihotra Ash to our drinking water, and many of us are doing so regularly. Why is that recommended? The reason is: Agnihotra Ash removes pathogenic bacteria from water. This has been tested a number of times. One impressive experiment was done by Dr. John Matlander of Cuenca, Ecuador.

Relationship of Agnihotra to Soil and Agriculture

Previously we talked about the experiments on Homa Farming done at Palampur Agricultural University, Himachal Pradesh, Northern India. The experiments showed increased yields, better disease resistance, and better quality of the produce.
The second part of their research was about soil health, a very important factor for future production.
